Training is harmonious, joyous, and compassionate.

Dojo Etiquette

Safety first!  Always place the safety of everyone in the

dojo at the top priority in everything that happens here.

Maintain positive, joyful, compassionate ki in all things said or done.  Constantly endeavor to strengthen ki-flow at the center of all actions.

Always bow to the shomen when entering or leaving the mat.  Show respect for our space and the people training here.  Onegaishimasu!

Wear a clean gi and have a clean body whenever training

at our center.  Clean the mats before every practice session.

Harmonize with the lead of the sensei conducting the class.

If a participant has trained elsewhere, he or she still needs to

cooperate sincerely with the irenic way while in our dojo.

Assume a seated position whenever the sensei is explaining something or discoursing generally.  Listen with positive ki to what the sensei is saying.

Those more experienced in irenic aiki should help those less

experienced; the latter should remain open to guidance by the

former.  Belt colors indicate experience level: white = beginner;

blue = intermediate; brown = advanced; and black = nandan.

Hakamas are not worn in our dojo.  This is because our

way is irenic not martial; because the long skirt is a safety

hazard; and just because we enjoy not wearing hakamas.

At the end of every training session, thank the sensei and

each person who participated.  Domo arigato gozaimasu!

Our Approach:

O'Sensei had a realization of the irenic essence of aikido.  He developed aikido techniques in a spirit of compassion for all things.  Tohei sensei established practical principles that show anyone how to develop their ki potential quickly through frequent aiki practice.  We follow both of these great leaders.  Our approach has been specially adapted for the older student but remains beneficial for people of any age group.
