Robert  SORENSEN EXPRESSIONIST

Born in Summit New Jersey-U.S.A. on the 1st September 1959, Sorensen  has lived one third of his life in Paris France,.  He returned to live in the U.S.A. in 2001, choosing  the Rocky Mountain State of Colorado, for its diverse nature, beauty, and excellent  alpine skiing.   In 1992 he took up painting by studying only 6 months in L’Academie des Beux Arts de Chaville- France, which was all that was needed, a brilliant natural talent was already imbedded into his soul.  In the 1980’s he studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute in NYC, followed by doing professional theater in a touring group through the Southern and Mid-western States of the U.S.A.  In this same period, he also wrote a sci-fi screenplay concerning a fantasy adventure to save planet Earth from an alien invasion in the year 2059 with the title QUANTEX-Z, a literary creation soon to be updated, and re-written into an Epic Novel that will encorporate the  cultural and technological changes of the early 21st Century Planet Earth.

In 2006, an anthology of approximately 264 poems and sonnets shall be finally promoted to publishers in written form, and in oral-form in the artist’s "own voice", through a planned series of PODCASTS.  This anthology been entitled as AGE OF 23 - SONNETS OF ANGELS AND DEMONS.  It is a series of poetic verse and free expression reflecting the American and World Societies in the 1980's into the mid 1990's.  Sorensen, touching the gateways to heaven and entering the abyss, and everywhere in between, reflecting all conditions and emotions of the human soul, from love to dire hate, fear, loss, desperation,  depression, and ultimate bliss, in his unending quest to understand the Planet Earth and its dominating occupants, the human beings, in the beginning of the Third Millennium.

The 1990’s, whence  he lived in France,  brought romance and marriage with Agata Kafarska, a native of Worclaw Poland in 1993.  Sorensen  has done the majority of exhibitions  in Paris, most notably in the bank headquarters of Societe Generale-1995, Galerie Artitude-1999 & 2004, American Cathedral  of Paris, Salon d’Automne-1993, Abney Gallery-NYC-1995, Salon des Independants-1999, Chamot Gallery-Jersey City/NYC(1998-2000).   In 1995 Sorensen became a Laureate 1st Prize winner in a French Government Contest.   To supplement his income, he taught English, and worked as a principal extra in French& International Films, Television, and Advertising. With the most notable performance  being a Documentary Reenactment  of “Dog Day Afternoon” called "The Third Memory"(Director: Pierre HUYGHE) where he played the bank manager.

Sorensen & his wife are passionate about traveling having traveled extensively world-wide including all of Europe, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, Mexico, Norhtern India and Nepal, Morroco, , and China in 2005. Yearly trips to Paris France are obligatory for business and cultural pleasure.  These  foreign lands surely spark his creative talent and imagination to new heights.

His parents are Eric William Sorensen, a native of Great Britain who was a lieutenant  in the Royal Horse Artillery during WWII and to Madeleine Marie Craighead, a native of Johnstown  Pennsylvania.    Sorensen lived his first years in Short Hills-New Jersey.  His Father was an international tax lawyer, his mother a dedicated house-wife and mother. From 1966 to 1970 he lived in France, towns near Paris. 1970 to 1978 he returned to live in Short Hills-New Jersey  He is the youngest of 3 children.  His brother Peter

     ARTISTIC THEME

Robert  most often takes dream-images and bites out of his  own life  to  enact  out on canvas, paper, or the computer screen  the hidden aura-energy within all living and non-living subjects and their surrounding environments.  Browns change into violets, greens into blues , blue sky’s in overbearing  swarms of  red, pink, and green tempests and spooking torrents.  His art is real & vibrant, unpredictable, and always a surprise & daring exploration  into new and unknown visionary paths and dimensions.
