ROBERT F. KENNEDY: A TRIBUTE

Lower East Side, New York City, 1968. (Fred Darragh).

Decades after his passing, the image and message of Senator Robert F. Kennedy still serve as a beacon of hope for millions of Americans. A man born into a life of wealth and privilege, Robert Kennedy evolved into a passionate advocate for the poor and disadvantaged in American society, as well as a powerful and eloquent opponent of the country's misguided war in Vietnam. His campaign for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 1968 energized countless Americans to rally to his call for peace and social justice. RFK's unique appeal was underscored by the coalition he forged in 1968 among poor whites, African-Americans, Hispanics, the middle class, and college students. His violent death in June 1968 left a gaping void in both the Democratic Party and American political life that remains unfilled to this day.

"Some men see things as they are say why?
I dream things that never were, and say why not?"
Robert F. Kennedy
