Resolution Of Intention To Pay

At the September 12, 2005 a motion was made and approved to purchase necessary robes and degree equipment for a Council First Degree Team. By having a First Degree Team in our home council, we can perform the degree in our own council chambers thus eliminating the necessity of finding another council to perform the degree for our candidates.
The Membership Committee concurs that this will improve our opportunities for increased numbers of new members.

The total cost will not exceed $1500.

To pay a sum in excess of $500 the resolution must be passed by a two-thirds of the members present and voting at a regular business meeting held subsequent to a regular business meeting  at which notice in writing of a resolution of intention to pay or transfer such money and the purposes  and amount to be paid or transferred shall have been given and regularly read.

A note from Grand Knight John Schechter

As our calendars turn over to the month of October, we find ourselves resigned to the fact that summertime has come and gone.  Labor Day is far behind us.  School is back in session, whether you are a pre-schooler, a high schooler, a college student, a parent, or a teacher. The fall equinox has passed.  Baseball season is waning. Leaves on many trees are showing signs that their colors will change soon.  And, the Knights of Columbus is moving ahead with plans for a busy 2005-2006 fraternal year!  We have some familiar projects and a few new endeavors planned to allow members to be involved in many events and activities to celebrate unity, charity, fraternity and patriotism - - the foundations of the Knights of Columbus!

On Monday, October 24th, plan to attend our Social meeting at 7:30 pm in the Msgr. Nugent parish hall.  Our guest speaker will be noted motivational speaker Thom Lisk, who brings a great message on how we can all be leaders in our own circle of friends, family, business or church relationships.  Thom’s presentation will be interesting to everyone, whether young, old, Catholic, searching, married, single or whatever.  Refreshments and beverages will be served.  Bring your wife or friend and a prospective member!

Mr. George Frank has graciously stepped forward to run this year’s Christmas Tree Sale for St. Andrew parish! I am most grateful to George for his commitment and am confident that the 2005 sale will be most successful! George will not do it alone and his committee has already met a few times to organize the 2005 sale.  They will need a lot of Knights to assist in many ways.  You may expect a call from his Committee requesting assistance or, if you would like to volunteer and specify your own Christmas Tree Sale work hours, please call George at 308-0369.

For many years, we have a conducted an annual project in December to assemble and distribute Christmas grocery baskets at the Columbus Salesian Boys and Girls Club to help needy inner-city families.  We hope to carry out this project again in December 2005; however, no Knight has stepped forward to serve as Captain to organize this year’s project.  If you would like to fulfill this necessary role and ensure the project’s success this year, please call me (457-9010) or Deputy Grand Knight Bill Fullam (457-3589).

From Carl Ferguson ,  General Agent

There are many fine life insurance companies in the marketplace.  So why entrust your life insurance needs, and those of your family to the Knights of Columbus?

In a recent lecture at Yale University, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson summed it up this way:
“Our core values permeate all levels of our marketing program.  Our ‘Marketing Code of Ethics’ is modeled after the Ten Commandments and includes statements such as ‘Thou shall present honestly and accurately, all facts necessary to enable a member to make an informed decision.’

Our ethical principles for marketing are summed up by our Golden Rule: ‘In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself.’”

That’s what you can expect from your Knights of Columbus agent.  I’ll be happy to meet with you, at your convenience, to honestly and accurately present all facts necessary for you to make an informed decision.  I promise to render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself.

Please give me a call.

PRAYER FOR THE CANONIZATION OF FATHER MICHAEL J. MCGIVNEY

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead
the young to the generous service of their neighbor.  Through the example of his life and
virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment
of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant
prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for
the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant
Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through
his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through
Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be
