I get the Hewlett-Packard PC Fixed--Sort of.....
But the warranty is running out!

Okay, the whole reason I am trying to get my HP Computer fixed is because my warranty is running out and I've procrastinated long enough. Here is the rest of the story. The end of the story—at least for now. If you haven't read the email wars that lead up to this, you can read them all by Clicking here to read them in order. I finally get the call from _____ _____ who was the HP CEO technician who was going to call me about all my computer problems—who turns out to be a fairly nice guy who I can't help but feel might have stuck his neck out for me to handle my problem. This is one reason I wonder about foreign support. Are these folks at risk of losing their jobs if they end up costing the company money by fixing things? But all in all we “sort of” reached some kind of solution. Not a good one, but it was better than getting the run-a-round. Read on to see what happened.

Oh, and add in about 40 more hours of my time. If this wasn't a principle issue, then it would have been far more cost effective to just go out and buy another computer. Now that is something I suspect HP figures into their Customer Support “Solution”. Anything for a dollar these days, or a rupee even I guess.

That was when I discovered the replacement wasn't even a new drive, but a used drive that had been sent in and rebuilt because it didn't work for somebody else before. There were actual small chunks of dirt inside that actually scratched the first and second CD I tried.......

First they ended up sending me another CD Drive after I had to give them a working credit card number first. I can kind of see the reason for this, since they want you to return the defective part.

Then I installed the CD Drive. That was when I discovered the replacement wasn't even a new drive, but a used drive that had been sent in and rebuilt because it didn't work for somebody else before. There were actual small chunks of dirt inside that actually scratched the first and second CD I tried, and I ended up blowing it out with compressed air. I wonder how much they would have charged me for a used product? I actually asked ______ about this but never got an answer.

After installing the CD drive which didn't seem to work any better than the other one, and after really stressing to _______ that I suspected the problem was with my motherboard, since the printer wouldn't work, and all the other problems I was having. He suspected I might have a virus, which I didn't think since I am adamant about security and keep everything up to date and never-ever open any attachments. Never. Neither should you.

Alright, I know how the whole process works, so I told him I would do a complete system restore by my suggestion, wiping the hard-drive down to like-new factory settings to see if this would fix things. Keep in mind that my CD/RW drive and my source of doing backups was not working exactly right. He agreed to await the results and told me to be sure to immediately update my antivirus software as soon as it was restored.

This I did, but while downloading the anti-virus updates which took an hour or two, the screen flashed that Norton had just detected a virus and it was unable to uninstall it. Just great. Just &%#$ great.........Onto Page 2 (click next below)
