Mt. Vesuvius in 1934

In early 2004 I purchased an old photo album at the flea market. It was assembled by a gentleman from the U.S. who took a tour of England and the Mediterranean area in 1934. I have decided to post the photographs he took when he visited Mt. Vesuvius in Italy, along with the comments he wrote on the reverse of the photographs. Unfortunately, he never identified himself by name so although I have his picture (Figure #1 below), I do not know his name. Also included in the album were postcards of Vesuvius in eruption and a ticket stub for the Railroad ride up Vesuvius, but I will not reproduce those items.
