Survival and CAP Training Documents

 


Introduction Idaho loves to share its historic past and exciting future with our visitors. As you discover a land of uncompromising beauty like nowhere else on earth, remember that this beauty often turns tragic to those who become lost in our wilderness. Idaho's spectacular mountain ranges, over 2000 sparkling lakes and world famous wild and scenic rivers lure many visitors each year and we in Eagle Rock Squadron get to look for some of them. Play carefully under our sunny skies, along our crystal clear lakes and seeming endless trails. Here man is truly out of his element. For this reason, we stress survival techniques, safety and recurrency training year round. In an effort to assist other CAP units, these documents are offered for your use. We simply ask that you give credit where credit is due and check with the authors before reproduction as some material may be copyrighted.


  1. CAP Emergency Services Resources  This page, maintained by Maj. Scott Lanis, is a very complete compendium of information on most aspects of CAP ES operations.  It includes programs to determine search grid numbers, including downloadable versions.  There’s more here than can be described in a simple paragraph.  Highly Recommended 
  2. "L-Tronics Trouble Shooting Guide", James Dahlgran, CAP.  In Rich Text Format.  I had been attempting to trouble shoot an L-Tronics Airborn DF unit for some time prior to acquiring this information.  I hope it will save someone else some time.
  3. Aircrew Survival Orientation, Maj. Mike Vorachek, CAP (and Bonneville County Search and Rescue). In WordPerfect 5.0 format. This document details the supplies and equipment necessary to survive in the back country should you have to unexpectantly land there. Mike stress some very good points in this outline and provides tips for best utilization of your supplies.
  4. Ground Team Operations Risk Analysis Matrix, Maj. Mike Vorachek. In WordPerfect 5.0 Format. CAP utilizes numerous ground teams each year to search for lost people, downed aircraft and training. Each time we sent personnel to the field, there is an inherit risk in this commitment. Maj. Vorachek has created a table where by a ground team lead can assess this risk numerically and provide independent support of his decisions to commit personnel to the ground.
  5. "Curricula for General Emergency Services Classroom Training For Aircrews", Maj. James Dahlgran, CAP. In Word For Windows 6.0 Format. Maj Dahlgran utilized the "Curricula for Emergency Services Classroom Training Course", Director of Operations, ME Region, CAP, July 1992 and CAPM 50-15 to create this document. The Eagle Rock Squadron utilizes six (6) days during Jan. and Feb. to thoroughly cover this material. It is an excellent outline for training aircrews and support personnel.
  6. "Radio Operating Procedures", author unknown.   In Word for Windows 6.0 Format.  This guide is written to assist Civil Air Patrol members in improving their radiotelephone procedures and on-the-air practices. The information contained in this guide follows CAPM 100-1, ACP-125, and other directives.
