The glove, and other paraphernalia have indeed served the purpose, it
seems, of articulating the distance between Michael and his audience.
Could it be true as well that Michael is letting the media consumer know
that he is a package That there is a very tangible space that he
occupies and the reality of the constructedness, of the deliberate
nature of that distance? Stories and docudramas which have looked at
the Jackson's in the past suggest that Michael has and still does not
like the spotlight.....Could the glove then be his way of grounding
himself?? Of not letting the cacophony of his status as an Icon, the
king of po(o)p as it were, not letting that {{stuff}} touch him??
Does the glove, mask, disguises, carpal tunnel truss, do all of these
things protect a part of him that is still venerable, afraid and weary
of the comodification of his person and its wholesale re-marketing to
the masses as a cultural product??
Just a thought??
