The entire controversy over Ebonics is a tempest in a teapot, and usually the commentary says more about the commenter than it does about Ebonics.

The Federal Government gives money to teach english to speakers where english is a second language. The Oakland school board was trying to get some of this money to assist in teaching english grammar to students who have exposure to the dialect (is dialect offensive -- I don't mean it in an offensive way) known as Ebonics.

There was never any intention to teach Ebonics in school. It is perfectly reasonable to assume materials targeted especially for these students would be useful and and it would be worthwhile funding programs specially designed for these students.

It is easier to make fun of something than it is to understand it. Regards -- Robert Kreisle
