Personal Reflection
and Learning Goals
Personal
Reflection
|
My aiding experience
offered me a chance to explore the theories I have studied in class. For
example, Bruner's discovery learning permits students to control their
learning; Vygotsky's scaffolding prepares students to collaborate in the
real world; and, when students learn about and make moral decisions, Kohlberg's
theories impact the students' lives. Also, I learned about the students
and about what it means to teach. More than just teaching, I realized
a teacher works in an environment. Further, teachers must interact and
collaborate within their personal community and within the community of
the students. Teaching is more than standing in front of a classroom;
teaching is preparing and impacting future minds to interact with the
world. I have never felt so excited to begin an exciting adventure and
opportunity. All in all, the experience was memorable and impacted my
future as a teacher.

Learning
Goals
|
Short-term
goals:
- In order to provide
my students the best possible education, I continue learning and exploring
my content areas. Therefore, I plan to continue taking classes in Spanish
(especially grammar and pedagogy) as well as returning to school to
upgrade my English minor to an English major.
- Since students
are a conglomeration of culture, community, and capacities, I plan to
educate myself in the students' cultures, communities, and capacities.
I will explore means to accommodate different learners by workshops
and literature as well as discover methods to include the students'
communities and cultures as part of my classroom. An excellent resource
would be an active volunteer from the community. Also, I will be an
active volunteer in the community to better understand my students'
community.
Long-term
goals:
- Every student
is a special learner and a special gift to every classroom; therefore,
teachers must be prepared to teach to a multitude of learning styles.
To educate myself in various learning styles, I plan to continue exploring
special education techniques via classes and workshops while reading
the current literature, especially Dr. Mel Levine's A Mind At a
Time.
- To specifically
continue my preparation and continual growth as a Spanish teacher, I
can only offer my students true experiences from firsthand knowledge.
Therefore, I plan to make efforts to explore the culture and community
of the Spanish-speaking world, whether through reading literature or
taking vacations/class trips to various Spanish-speaking areas. Furthermore,
I plan to maintain contacts with Spanish-speakers in order to have a
valuable resource available to myself and my students.
