Research and Projects
My research is focused on the Bronze Age Eurasian Steppe of the
Southern Zaural. I have extensive field experience in Russia,
and I am VERY interested in participating in anthropological research
projects in the Former Soviet Union. Take a look at my CV,
and if you are interested in discussing projects, please contact
me.
A big project in 1998 was the creation of the first online exhibition for the
Getty Research Institute (back
when I worked for them- bitterness there that I won't go into), Irresistible
Decay: Ruins Reclaimed. (The site has since been replaced with a less
elegant but easier to maintain CMS version). The online exhibition was created
as a demonstration model for possible future exhibitions, and also to show how
various online resources can be interconnected to enhance the exhibition experience.
In January 1999 I was in South Africa where I was co-convening (with Claire Lyons) a full day symposium titled "The Archaeology of Colonialism." at the Fourth
World Archaeological Congress in Cape Town (and
a holiday thrown in after that- see the Trip Report).
A Short Description of the symposium can be found at the WAC4 web site.
In 2001 an article I wrote, "Soviet Ethnogenetic Theory and the Interpretation
of the Past" was published in Terrell, John E. (Ed.) Language, Archaeology,
and History: Essays on the Prehistory of Ethnicity. Westport, CT:Greenwood
Publishing Group. You can buy it on Amazon.
Here's my research bibliography on Archaeology
and Ethnicity, with a bias towards Soviet ethnogenetic studies.
