Family History Files

My grandmother, Minnie Viola (Hardy) Gillette, died a few days before I was born. For the 2001 Gillette Family Reunion, my mother wrote a short vignette on her mother. This vignette accompanies two other files about my grandmother on this page. The first is her short biography that she wrote a few years before her death. The second is some remembrances from her oldest son, my Uncle Perry Gillette.

My Aunt June (June Bryan Gillette Alcorn) died on July 28, 2000. Her funeral was held in Tooele on August 3, 2000. I was able to arrange my travel schedule to attend the funeral. I've included her obituary along with some notes and thoughts.

I recently came across biographical information on Perry Chappell Gillett and Minnie Viola Hardy Gillette, my grandfather and grandmother. I've transcribed this information and all you need to do is follow the links!

I ran across a delightful set of family history biographical sketches including one on Joshua Hague Gillett and his wife Mary Butterley. They were the Gillett ancestors who joined the Church in England and immigrated to Utah. That sketch was put on the web by Karen Shields Emery and can be seen here.

In August 1997 a Nathan LeRoy and Mary Burton Smith Family Reunion was held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. One of the pieces of family history information was provided by my Aunt LaRella. I've scanned in this piece of information which is Nathan LeRoy Smith's mission experiences as related to his daughter, LaRella Larsen.

I recently obtained a transcript of the Perry Gillette Oral History Interview conducted on March 14, 1965, thanks to the efforts of my oldest daughter, Heather Brown. This is an interesting interview, so I transcribed it into a format that it could be included in the Family History portion of our home page.

I attended a Hardy Family Reunion in Salt Lake City on June 10, 1989. I videotaped a portion of the reunion where attendees related stories about their Hardy ancestor. Nearly all of these ancestors are related to me, so I've transcribed the videotape stories and have put them on our home page as well. The speakers included: Josiah Guile Hardy
Josiah Guile Hardy

The Josiah Guile Hardy, genealogy is also included to tie the various folks from the Hardy Family Reunion together. I'm very interested in additional data for all of these folks. Anyone having information, please send me some e-mail with the data -- or a link to where the data might be found on the internet.

Merrill Gilette (my cousin) called to give me some corrected information on the death and burial date and location for Sarah Clark Parker, wife of Josiah Guile Hardy. Many thanks, Merrill!

Thanks!
Roland K. Smith
