PLANETARY #27
Some of the powers-that-be over at WildStorm (separately, Wildstorm VP and General Manager Hank Kanalz and editor Ben Abernathy) had indicated a while back that there were tentative plans for an epilogue-type issue to wrap the series as Ellis' and Cassaday's schedules allowed. Ellis has confirmed this as well, alluding to it here and there as the months have rolled by. Here are some comments on the topic from a couple of Ellis's Bad Signals:Spring of 2005:
Cassaday and I are talking about a little stunt for the last few issues of PLANETARY -- I'm pretty sure right now that 27 will be the last issue.In July 2006:By the end of July (2005), PLANETARY will be pretty much done, save for the aftermath/closing issue, which I may have taken off the schedule and released a few months after #26 as a coda.
27 is just an epilogue... The epilogue just ties things off in a ragged little bow.In June '07
Have started PLANETARY 27 for the fifth time. This one should be the charm. Trying to strike the right tone. Should have it in over the weekend, with luck. It's all sitting there as a huge stack of note files, everything the story has to do, but that's not the actual WRITING.Followed later that month by...Almost ten years to the month that John Cassaday and I had our first conversation at San Diego about creating a new series: I have just completed and delivered the full script for PLANETARY #27, the final issue of the series.So 27 will wrap the series, but it now seems unlikely that it will be released before the final months of 2007 at the earliest.
