Originally an orphan, Wilder was taken in by Anna Hark at age 16 and grew up to be almost a son to her, as well as her personal investigator and perhaps a confidant. Wilder was set by his boss (in Issue 4)in an effort to engineer a superhuman to aid in the battle against The Four.
Since the accident that granted him as-yet-unspecified powers, Jim has agreed to become the pilot of the stranded Shiftship that gave him his powers. The shiftship is a sentient, dimension-spanning vessel that wishes to return to its own reality. Jim is receiving aid in his search for a new crew from the Planetary organization. Snow's knowledge of Wilder's circumstances was instrumental in convincing Anna Hark to join Planetary and Wilder in the fight against The Four (Issue 16).
