Small Flower Fairy

Welcome to my fairy page where I introduce a few of my creations. These fairies were inspired by the books of Rachel Haab (Petal People You Make Yourself) and Sally Mavor (Felt Wee Folks) and making them has become a passion of mine in the last couple of years. Hope they make you as happy as they make me...

From Sally Mavor's original designs, my fairies developed their own personalities and style.

The Flower Fairies and Happy Dolls are made with many found and recycled materials. Friends have given me bags of old lace and ribbon scraps and I scour the thrift stores for old silk flowers to use in creating fairy skirts. The tiny fairies have thread designs glued on, the bigger fairies have embroidered felt or fleece clothing. The tiniest of beads can make a wonderful decoration for tiny clothes and small hats of felt are fun to build. Hair is made of thread or wool fleece, or anything else that catches my fancy.

I Wish I May, I Wish I Might...

The Happy Dolls are cousins of the Wee Folk dolls by Sally Mavor, but of my own design. Each fairy or doll I make is unique. I never make the same design twice because it seems to me that there is a little fairy essence in each one that is itching to be set free through my hands. If I make the same one over and over, the individual essence remains trapped and creative expression is dulled.

I believe in fairies...I do! I do! I do!
