George W Peed

George W Peed was born 20 April 1777 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia. He was the son of John Thomas Peed and Susanna Peak. On 21 May 1777 George Peade, son of John and Susanna, was baptized in Kingston Parish. George's surname, shown as Peed, may also be found as Pead, Peade or Peede in documents. He married first Mary (--?--) 1804 either in Virginia or North Carolina. He first appears in Beaufort County, North Carolina, records on 27 October 1810 when he witnessed an indenture between Henry Smaw and Henry Blount. During 1837 through 1839, George purchased land from William Worsley, Luther S Eborn, Samuel Masters, John McWilliams, William Cook and William E Smaw. He married second Sarah Evett, daughter of John Evett Jr and (--?--) Warren, between 1846 and 1848 in Beaufort County, North Carolina. George was recorded on the census of 1 June 1850 living in South Creek District, Beaufort County, North Carolina. He was enumerated as George W Peed, the head of household, age 72. The other members of his household were Sally Peed age 38, Georgia Virginia Peed age 6/12 and Julia A Roe age 8. He died 28 July 1860 in Richland Township, Beaufort County, North Carolina, at age 83. George W Peed was buried in the George W Peed Cemetery in Durham Creek.
My line of descent is through the marriage of daughter Mary Susan (Peed) Rowe and her second husband, John B Franklin Peed, who was a grandson of my ancestor Henry Peed. Although these two Peed families share the same surname, extensive research has not revealed a lineal relationship between George W Peed and Henry Peed.
