The Gerrard Chapel Primitive Baptist Church has an interesting history. It was founded 28 May 1808 as the Baptist Church of Christ. In 1825, Lodowick Redditt deeded an acre of land to the Baptist Church of Christ on Blounts Creek, Beaufort County, North Carolina. The location of the church, given on the survey dated January 1985 by Joyce A. Pollard, was included in A 1989 Supplement to the Hill and Related Families of Eastern North Carolina by William B. Hill.

"To locate this cemetery go East on Highway 33 from Chocowinity to Cox's Cross roads and turn on State Road 1100 approx. 1.5 miles. On the right is the Church." Behind the church are evidences of what may have been a larger cemetery. The two stones listed in 1985 were for Joshua Hill 1757-1833 and Dezeway U. Gerrard 1866-1945.

William Hill possibly added to the Pollard survey the list of names obtained from Walter Langley Daniels. Daniels, at some point, recorded 76 names of residents of the Blounts Creek area who worshipped in the church. The June 2013 issue of Pamteco Tracings included an article, "The Gerrard Chapel Primitive Baptist Church," by Jean Gurkin that displayed the names of 95 church members. Please read Jean's article for information pertaining to the history of the church.

The dates of an individual's church participation are not known. It is assumed the names provided were of members during the early 1800s. Some names were spelled differently on the two lists. All individuals named on either list are displayed with links to those having pages on this website. Additonal information, added for clarification, includes estimated birth or death dates from my database. There may be mistakes in determining who was a member as names were often repeated in families. Corrections greatly appreciated.
