The Polar Star

The Polar Star was a Swedish ice
breaker refurbished as a cruise
ship. It is 290 feet and carries
100 passengers and about 100 crew. It can break through ice up to 3 meters thick. It has two propellers facing forward as well as two at the back,  so it can turn within its own length. All systems are backed up including two motors for each propeller. There is even a sewage treatment plant on board so there is no pollution. In addition to all that, the staterooms and all common rooms are spacious and pleasant.
The most exciting point was sailing
between grounded icebergs. These
'bergs towering over the ship were
about 50 feet high, but 80 percent of it
was underwater. We passed between
them with only about 15 feet on each
side.
