The European and North American
tectonic plates meet in Iceland.
The North American Ridge runs
approximately through the middle
of the island. When earthquakes
occur, they cause deep crevices,
varying in width from a foot to 15-20
feet.

At some points the crevice is
narrow
enough that one can stand with one
foot in North America and the
other in
Europe. |
