Lava Landscapes
Back to Iceland     Next

The first thing one sees as they
drive the 46km from the airport to
Rekjavik is vast areas of "new"
volcanic soil and rock. A large
proportion of the island looks like
this.

earthquake "activity", it may
cause moonscapes such as this.
Along the North American ridge,
activity may occur as often as
every 100 years.
