Night Encounters
Summary
These are a series of unrelated vignettes, mostly set during the fortnight Christine spent underground with Erik, when she was uncertain of her feelings for him. These stories follow the Red Rose timeline, but some are darker than Red Rose, as they are set in an earlier, more tumultuous period of Erik and Christine’s relationship.

Night Encounter—Renewal
of an Old Acquaintance
This short story is darker than my usual ones, and is based on incidents from Gaston Leroux’s and Susan Kay’s novels. Erik and Nadir Khan meet again, in an unexpected manner…
Night Encounter—A Conversation in the Dark
Another short story, a vignette in the underground house, when Erik cannot sleep due to memories of the past. This is a Red Rose “prequel.”
Night Encounter—A
Walk in the Bois
What begins as a pleasant evening out leaves Christine mildly injured. This is pure, sweet, Erik-and-Christine “phluff.” The short epilogue, Spiral, is included here as well.
Night Encounter—The
Dark Red Rose
Dinner conversation below the Opera after an evening’s performance, leads to the symbolism of the rose. Again, another sweet and “phluffy” story.
Night Encounter—The
Opera Roof
During a visit to the Opera roof, Erik relates a bit of his past, and Christine gains an idea of the true depth of his feelings.
Night Encounter—The
Music Lesson
Christine reflects on her thoughts and feelings for the two men in her life.
Night Encounter—Chess is a Game
of Strategy
A game of chess turns into a confrontation. This short story is set just before Act I, Scene 10 from Phantom of the Opera, the musical.
