Welcome to Riene's Website

The stone house is set well back from the road, down a long winding driveway, overshadowed by trees. You cross the wide terrace and approach the door, its sole ornamentation a knocker shaped like a griffin's head. The door opens after a moment's pause and you find yourself looking at a tall slim gray-eyed woman. Her long black hair is twisted up into a knot above her neck. She smiles suddenly and speaks in a quiet alto voice. "Come in. Welcome to my home."

You follow her into the house. The faintest trace of freesia perfume lingers in the air. You glimpse a large open room, lined with filled bookshelves and dominated by a massive fireplace, a library. She leads you past it to a smaller blue and ivory room, a sitting room, and seats you near the pleasant fire.

“Would you like some tea?” she asks. “I’ve just made a fresh pot of Ceylon.” You are handed a fragile white porcelain cup, trimmed with a white lace pattern and edged with silvery platinum trim. She sets a tray with sugar, milk, lemon, and sweets on the table between you.

Gracefully, she sits in the matching ivory-covered cherry wood chair and smiles. “I’m so glad you stopped by. I was hoping you would call.”

My Own Stories and Phan Phiction

Portals to GodsHolm—original fantasy fiction

A Winter Story

This is a short story set in my own fantasy world of Icander. Though the characters are not named, they are the main ones from the story below.

Wintermage, King, and Healer Link Not Yet Active

My novel that I hope to have published in the real world someday. It tells the story of Mattias, Rien, and Asander.

A Chance Encounter

My good friend and fellow author, Kates, is a writer of fantasy fiction as well. For some time now we have been reviewing each other’s works. One night after reading her latest story, titled True Hate and True Love I had a sudden idea for a crossover story between her imaginary world and mine.

Phantom of the Opera Phan Phiction

An Evening Across the River Styx --January 2003

This is a short story, a vignette set during the time Erik and Christine are together in the underground house, after she has removed his mask, and before the final act.

The Red Rose--February 2003

At the end of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Christine and Raoul leave the Opera, and Erik prepares to face the mob and the rest of his bleak existence. Events, however, do not always work out as we plan. This is my Phantom novel, consisting of nine chapters, that describe what could have happened afterward…..

L'Ange de Musique --February 2003

This is a very short vignette, set during Christmas Eve at the Opera. Christine is gone, and Erik decides to give himself a present.

Night Encounters --2003-2005

Night Encounters are a series of unrelated vignettes, set during the fortnight Christine spent underground with Erik, when she was uncertain of her feelings for him. These stories are somewhat darker than Red Rose, as they are set in a tumultuous period of Erik and Christine’s relationship.

To Come Out of the Darkness --Coming soon—I hope

This short story is set around the year 1922, and involves Erik and Christine’s granddaughter, who is having some troubles of her own. Perhaps Christine’s advice can help.

A Second Chance --May, 2003-2004

This story is set immediately after the end of the ALW stage play. It has been two days since Christine left Erik to face the mob alone, and she finds herself wondering what has happened in her absence. This novel is not set in my Red Rose timeline, though it borrows many aspects of that phiction.

Leroux Epilogue Story --June 2003

This is a short story, based on the ending from the original novel. It is as true to the original as I can make it, and there is no happy ending.

A Trip To Remember --April 2003

Many websites have places where fans have posted their “traveling to see Phantom experiences.” Both traveling and seeing Phantom are out of the question for me for the foreseeable future—but this is what I wish would happen! This little phic is meant only for amusement and is set a couple years into the future.

Phantom, Phiction, and Phandom -- July 2005
