Mt. Wainiha as you walk up Powerhouse Road

Special to 100 Shades of Green, beyond its proximity to these justifiably famous spots, is the opportunity to enjoy the Wainiha River Valley.  A walk up Powerhouse Road is a constant treat and one of our favorite walks on the island.  You will always notice something new as the road twists and winds up the valley - palm trees, fruit trees, flowers, animals (birds, frogs, geese, owls, cows, horses . . .), interesting houses, all sorts of vegetation.  I know you won't believe it, but some of the leaves are as big as you are.  This is a neighborhood that is still off the beaten track and probably pretty much as it was 10-20 years ago.

Lush vegetation - palm trees, banana plants, several types of flowering ginger, night blooming jasmine, ti plants, and much more - truly at least 100 shades of green. And, though you have neighbors, the plants surround you, the birds serenade you, the river roars close by, unseen but ever-present. Sometimes you can imagine yourself in Jurassic Park (filmed on Kauai, but the dinosaurs have been removed).
