Whole grain has been the biological, economical and social foundation of every great civilization on earth for over 10,000 years. In fact, the cultivation of grain defines mankind's emergence from the Stone Age. Grain is the only source of bran and bran is essential to digestive health. The National Institute of Health says that most chronic diseases originate from the digestive tract. Even our young children suffer from digestive problems and "adult-onset" chronic diseases on epidemic levels. In the past 50 years, almost all whole grain and bran has been removed from the modern diet and replaced with refined flour. So, it is very clear why people of all ages in modern culture are plagued with digestive problems and chronic disease . . . There are no whole grains and no bran in the modern diet.
My Practical Guide gives you all the information you need to use bran effectively. I suffered 30 years of digestive distress and many chronic skin conditions and joint pains. I tried lots of things: surgery, medications, supplements and alternative treatments. They were expensive and gave only some relief. My chronic conditions raged on until I started using bran daily in 1996. I knew right away that this was what my body wanted. It took a year to repair the damage to my digestive tract and then everything changed. My chronic skin and joint conditions improved dramatically. Now, when I finish my desk job each day, I go to the gym to lead fitness classes. I have been researching, writing and teaching about bran since then.
