Not long after acquiring NetDynamics, Sun has released an upgrade to its Java Web Server reference implementation.

The NBA may not be scoring many points these days, but the latest JRun version is. Live Software's JRun 2.2.1 now comes with a stand-alone web server and can run multiple JVMs. The new version of JRun rounds out its web server support adding Apache to its existing support for NES, Fastrack and IIS.

The BEA WebLogic (formerly called Tengah) was named the 1998 JavaWorld Editor's Choice for Web applications servers. The JavaWorld award for best servlet tool went to Sun Java Web Server. One day earlier, ATG Dynamo won the Best Application Server award from CNET's Builder.com.

Servlets have a new API that provides information sharing, better session management, easier initialization, and easier delegation. A really nice touch is that your program can ask the API which version it is.

New Atlanta Communications, LLC released ServletExec 2.0 with Java Server Pages for IIS, NES, Fastrack, Apache, as well as major Mac web servers.

Netscape seems to have settled on the standard JSDK servlet architecture for use with Netscape Enterprise Server. They recommend using Live Software's JRun -- and they tell you how to hook it all together.
