Saturday, September 23rd:

10:00AM: -- General Course on Beads
Location: At the Seminar Tent.
Presented by Scott Eutsler of Touch The Earth (may also have a mystery guest)
This will be a general course on glass and stone beads in North American trade from contact to 1840. Appropriate for the beginning through advanced collector.

12:00 Noon: -- History of Batteau River Trade
Location: At the batteau near the big tree.
Presented by Diane McNaught
This seminar will cover over 100 years of river trade history on the James River and other Virginia rivers. You will be able to see the Rose of Nelson batteau, named for the Rev. Robert Rose, the first tobacco planter on the Tye River in Nelson County, Virginia.

1:00PM: -- Flint Knapping
Location: At the Seminar Tent
Presented by Stephen Knight.
This will be a demonstration of flint knapping using primitive implements to create a point. Bring your own tools and raw materials and join in or just watch.

3:00PM: -- Opening Ceremonies

Immediately following the Opening Ceremonies will be the NRLHF nominations of Eastern Rendezvous Delegates. (Nominees introduce themselves to the camp.)

Weave your own shawl. No weaving experience needed. Choose yarns and register early. Spend 10-20 hours throughout the week to complete a project.

11:30AM: -- Navajo Spindle Spinning
Location: At the Seminar Tent.
Presented by Joan Bowman.
This historical seminar will also be a hands on demonstration of Navajo spindle spinning. Includes a discussion of natural dyes and examples of Navajo weaving. Limited to 12.

1:00PM: -- NRLHF Delegates Meeting (Open to all camp participants) This will be a discussion of delegates job requirements with the EPR nominees as well as an informal delegates meeting. Discussion of issues and exchange of items wanted on agenda at the Annual Business Meeting.
Location: At the NRLHF Camp.

1:30PM: -- Making a Market Basket
Location: At the Seminar tent
Presented by: Kathy Henn
Learn how to make a useful market basket. Materials will be provided at cost so there will be a small fee. Please try to bring the following tools: Heavy duty scissors, an awl, screwdriver, knife for carving, a pencil, a measure, and a basin for soaking reeds. Bring what you have. If not, we will share. Limited to 15.

Monday, September 25th:

This is a continuation of a course begun Sunday morning.

10:00AM: -- The History of the Jesuit Missionaries and the role they played during the Fur Trade Era.
Location: At the Seminar Tent.
Presented by: Father Thomas
     This seminar will focus on the role of the early Jesuit Missionaries in the exploration and settlement of New France and during the subsequent British and American Era. It will also include a comparison and contrast of how the belief systems of French Catholic Traders and the Protestant English Traders and later American Traders related with the Native American Indian beliefs when involved in the Fur Trade activities. Included in the discussion will be the ``importance of", and ``fun of", adding a ``religious aspect" in one's Rendezvous Character/Persona. Of special consideration will be a discussion of such activities as: ``Giving of Gifts" / Annual Annuities, the Prostitution of the Native Women / having ``Country Wives", the importance of Alcohol in the Fur Trade and the propensity of the Native Americans for Gambling.

11:00AM: -- Home Tanning
Location: At the Seminar Tent.
Presented by Denny Eggburtson.
Denny will discuss the methods of modern home tanning techniques. He will cover the preparation of the hide through the tanning process. Product resources information will also be provided.

1:00PM: -- From Flax to Linen
Location: At the Seminar Tent.
Presented by Clair Moore.
This is a demonstration of the processes involved in preparing flax to make linen thread. She will Break, Scutch, Hackel, and Spin. This was one of the main fibers used in Colonial America.

1:00PM:  -- Shooting Safety for Junior Shooters
Location: At the Rifle Range
Presented by R. L. ``Buffler" Seay
Covers the safe handling of black powder firearms and how to shoot them.

3:00PM: -- Network 101 for the Ladies.
Location: At the Seminar Tent
Presented by Sue Bardo.
This is Sue's continuing program on Massage Therapy at Rendezvous for general well being and Herbal Therapy for women in menopause.

Tuesday, September 26th (School Children Day):

10:00AM: -- The Battle of Fort Mims.
Location: At the Seminar Tent.
Presented by Darrell Hager.
This will be a presentation on the historical story of the opening battle of the Creek Indian War. This was one of the major events that shaped the history of America. You will meet: Jackson, Houston, Crockett, and Bowie. Hear how a little known backwoods lawyer became the most popular and influential man in America. This is a MUST SEE EVENT!!!

This will be a historic overview of Archaeological finds in and around hearthsites of the late Archaic to Contact Period. A study of the flint tools used and made by women.

1:00PM: -- Black Powder Shooting for Women as presented by a woman.
Location: At the Ladies Shooting Range.
Presented by Certified Instructor Ma Claytor.
This will be a demonstration of shooting safety and will include how to load and shoot black powder firearms. For beginning shooters. This seminar can be used as credit towards obtaining a Virginia Hunting license.

Hank will demonstrate how a few simple items are made. Discussion will include building the fire, tools, metal movement, and other blacksmithing techniques.

Ron will demonstrate forging high carbon steel into knife blades.

1:00PM: -- NRLHF Annual Business Meeting. Open to all camp participants. NRLHF General Business Meeting to conduct the business of the foundation including the election of a Board of Officers.

Presented by Linda Jones
Linda will teach you how to pluck quills from the hide, wash, separate, and dye them. Then create a finished project of a quilled rawhide strap to be used on a favorite feather or bracelet, etc. Please bring Scissors. There will be a $10.00 material fee. Limited class size.

Saturday, September 30th (Public Day):

10:00AM -- Covers and Clothes - A High - Level Discussion of Quilting from 1760 - 1840.
Location: At the Seminar Tent
Presented by: Cheryl Dale Hodges (The Quilt Lady)
     This seminar will cover various quilting applications used during this period with an emphasis on quilted bedcovers. We will discuss the various textiles used, color availability, and techniques. Attendees will be given the opportunity to participate in a hands-on activity. There will be two types of kits available, but each participant may choose only one kit: (1) a quilted clothing pattern and (2) Broderie Perse quilt top technique sampler. Kit (1) is best for anyone not acquainted with the quilting process. Kit (2) is an appliqué technique. Anyone wishing to work with kit (2) will need to bring a pair of SMALL, SHARP scissors. Scissors are essential! Kits are provided free of charge and will be handed out during the seminar. NOTE: Due to the hands-on activity and the amount of individual attention that should be given to each participant, this seminar is limited to 16 persons.
