PEACHES, APPLE ORCHARDS AND WOODSON'S MILL

From Oak Ridge, take Rt 653 2.4 miles to Hwy 29. Turn left on Hwy 29 and go South 1.1 miles to Rt 56 West. Turn right on Rt 56 and continue for 2.3 miles to Saunders Orchard where you will find delicious peaches. Paul Saunders also has an antique farm tool museum that he loves to show to people. After leaving Saunders orchard turn right on Rt 56 and continue west for 2.8 miles to Rt 151. Turn left on Rt. 151 and the next right on Rt 778. Stay on Rt 778 for 2.5 miles to Woodson's Mill. This four-story post-and-beam structure is still grinding grain just as it did 200 years ago when it was built.
From Woodson's Mill turn right on Rt 778 and continue for .3 miles to Rt 666 (Lowesville Rd/Woodson Rd.) Turn right on Rt 666 which winds along beside the Piney River and go 2.4 miles, turn right and cross over bridge to stay on Rt 666. After 1.2 miles bear right on Jack's Hill Rd. (steep gravel road) Stay on Jack's Hill Rd for 3.8 miles. You will go through Dickie Brothers Orchard. A few yards after the road becomes hard surface, bear left on Dickie Rd. Go 2.1 miles to Rt 56. Turn right on Rt 56 East and go 1.8 miles to Rt 151. Turn left on Rt 151 then the next right on Rt 655. Stay on Rt 655 4 miles until it ends. Turn left on Rt 56 East and continue for 1.1 miles to Hwy 29. Turn left on Hwy 29 and go 1.1 miles to Rt 653. Turn right on Rt 653 and return to Oak Ridge. |
