RULES OF THE CAMP

Cooperation, maintaining the high standards of safety, and preserving the integrity of the encampment is asked of everyone.  Enforcement of the below camp rules is as follows:  Violators will be asked once, told once, and then escorted from camp upon the third violation.  Please observe the following rules:

Attendance at a primitive event means:  All clothing, lodges, and accouterments must be in the period of 1640 through 1840 in North America.  Absolutely no modern footwear and sunglasses of any kind, unless medically required.  Period eye wear is encouraged for those wearing glasses.  Eye and hearing protection is encouraged on the firing line only!  All modern items (coolers, bottles, cans, plastic, etc.) must be kept out of sight at all times.  All photography equipment (camera, camcorders, etc.) must be covered when not in use and NO FLASH photography.

One current NMLRA membership per camp is not required, but is encouraged.  Non-members are required to pay an additional $10.00 per adult to offset NMLRA insurance costs.

Rendezvous Rules will take effect on Friday, September 22nd at 7:00a.m.

NO pets will be permitted in the primitive area!  NO animals other than horses and mules will be allowed.

ABSOLUTELY NO MODERN GUNS IN CAMP!  No throwing of knives, hawks, shooting of bows etc in camp.

CAMPING: Early setups will be permitted ONLY if you are pre-registered.  Pre-registered traders will be permitted in on September 17th and 18th. Pre-registered campers will be permitted in beginning on Wednesday, September 20th. DO NOT PLAN ON COMING EARLY IF YOU ARE NOT PRE-REGISTERED. Camp is open for general setup on Friday, September 22nd.  Gate hours will be 7:00am to 5:00pm.  Gate hours strictly enforced.  As always, there will be a one hour time limit for unloading and loading vehicles.  This will be enforced. Vehicles must be out of camp one hour after gate closes, you must be in primitive attire within one hour of your arrival, and at all times in primitive camp starting Friday, September 22nd at 7:00am.  Your medallion will be required to enter the rendezvous AT ALL TIMES!  Entry in any matches or competitions also requires your medallion.  Camp feast will be on Wednesday, September 27th.

All buildings located on Oak Ridge Properties, except the mansion, are ``off limits".  Tours of the mansion will be available daily for a small fee.

One vehicle pass will be issued to each vehicle upon arrival.  After setup, this will admit the vehicle back into camp one time for the purpose of breaking camp.  Absolutely no supply runs into camp.  Hauling wood or water with your vehicle during setup or tear down is forbidden.  Share the wood, don't hoard it.

HANDICAPPED CAMPING AREA is provided and is very close to the Handicapped parking area.  Special consideration will be made, if necessary to handicapped campers with regards to the possession and use of flammable liquids.  Please contact a staff member for details.

A ``Primitive pack-in/trek" area will be available for those who wish to use it.  This area is closed to all vehicles, all access is strictly carry in.  NO FACILITIES!  A sign in/sign out board will be available in this area, its use is a must for all people using the pack-in/trek area.  WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO LOOK FOR ANYONE!

There will be no camping permitted in the parking lot, there will be a modern camping area with no hookups.  There will be no commercial or blanket trading in the modern camping area.

All schedules for ranges, meetings, seminars, trash and ice runs as well as specific rules, area history and other useful tidbits of information are in the Rendezvous Booklet. When all else fails read the book! Simply click on the schedule of activities button shown in the index to receive that information.

Firewood, water and trash pickup will be provided.  All trash must be in tied plastic bags for pick up.  Ice will be available daily.  Ice and trash bags must be covered when taken to and from your camp.  Sacks will be available for a fee.  Please preserve our unsoiled reputation by cleaning your camp site.  Policing of refuse, especially cigarette butts, is up to you and your neighbor.  Do not litter at any time. Please leave your area the same way or better than you found it.  ``Stations" will be located throughout the camp.  Hooters, water and firewood will be located at these stations.  Trash pickup and ice sales will also be at these stations.

FIRES must be contained in a pit and must be attended at all times.  A minimum of two gallons of water in an open container must be kept within five feet of the fire pit specifically for fire control.  No cutting of live trees or brush.  Please fill and level your fire pit when you leave.  DO NOT bury partially burned wood or trash.  Return unused wood to the nearest station.

PROPANE will be permitted to food vendors only and the containers must be kept out of sight at all times.  Commercial food vendors equipment will be inspected by the rendezvous staff for safety. Fire extinguishers are required by state law!  Inspectors have the final word concerning the safety of your setup.  SPECIAL NOTE TO FOOD VENDORS: Nelson County, Virginia requires you to purchase a $30.00 Itinerate Vendor's Business License and also to collect a 4% use tax on sales. This requirement only effects food vendors.A tax collector will be on site at the end of the rendezvous.

SAFETY: The safety and conduct of young people under the age of sixteen (16) is the responsibility of their parents.  No use of firearms, knife, hawk or other weapons or tools without direct supervision of the responsible adult will be permitted.  This includes the practice block and practice shooting.

THIEVERY and fighting of any kind will not be tolerated.  Violators will be turned over to the Police.  The sale, trade or barter of alcohol is prohibited by the State of Virginia and the NMLRA rules.

ARTILLERY will permitted on the designated range during posted times only and upon a safety inspection by the Artillery Range Officer.

ANIMALS: Other than horses and mules, none are permitted.  All horses and mules are required to have a current coggins test (within one year), and all horses and mules from outside Virginia need a current health certificate. These will be checked by the horse captain.   A designated horse camp will be provided.  You are responsible in all ways for the health, safety, and conduct of your animals.  The Horse Camp Captain will have final say of all camp animals.  Make sure your animals are tolerant of the sights, sounds and chaos of rendezvous!  If you have any doubts please do not bring them!  All tack, wagons, buggies and accessories must be period appropriate.  All wagons and buggies must be inspected prior to use.  Dogs, cats and other pets will not be allowed in primitive areas.  Visitors, please leave your pets at home! NOTE: Horse & mule feed and supplies are available at Mays Farmer's Service (Southern States) - 804-263-5026.

TRADE POLICY: A Sutler is defined as anyone offering a total of $500.00 or more in non-personal items for sale or trade.  A Blanket Trader is anyone offering a total of $499.99 or less in personal items for sale or trade that will fit on a four point blanket (72 X 90). The only items to be displayed, sold or traded in any way, are original or reproductions of articles in common use in North America during the period of 1640 to 1840.  No modern packaging, labels or price tags to be displayed.  Books, patterns, paintings, etc., must deal directly with or depict the 1640 to 1840 period and must be displayed inside a trade shelter.  For all trade related matters, the decision of the Trade Committee is final.  Blanket traders are also required to abide by all trade rules.  A trade license will be issued upon arrival at the gate.  This license must be displayed at all times.

NOTICE TO ALL - including dealers, and possessors of FURS, CLAWS, FEATHERS, ETC.:  It is your responsibility to confirm the compliance of your goods with Virginia game regulations as well as with all Federal Laws.  For further information, contact the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries, 4010 W. Visitors will be welcome from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm on the first Sunday, September 24th, and on the second Saturday, September 30th. Visitor admission fee is $3.00 each (children under 12 are free). We will also have an organized school day on Tuesday, September 26th from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. As always, no pets will be allowed.

WEAPONS POLICY:  Any violation of the following rules THREATENS the safety and future of the entire Rendezvous!  Violations will result in IMMEDIATE removal from camp without warning.  Range rules will be in the Rendezvous Booklet, and also on our web site.  All NMLRA safety rules and regulations apply.  Any decision by the Range Officer regarding any aspect of the range, including scoring, safety and conduct is final.  Use of eye and hearing protection is encouraged on the firing line for safety.  Absolutely no loaded, primed or capped firearms anywhere in camp except on the firing line at the range during supervised hours or on designated trails.  Be prepared to prove that it is empty!  No throwing of knife or hawk or other edged weapons, use of bows, whips, blow guns, slings, clubs or sword play, etc. except in designated areas.  ABSOLUTELY NO MODERN FIREARMS will be possessed, sold or traded anywhere on rendezvous grounds (including modern camping and parking areas) by anyone at any time.

The enforcement of these rules is not just the responsibility of the staff, it is up to each individual to make sure that all of these rules are enforced at all times.  This is your rendezvous, and it is the duty of everyone, pilgrim and graybeard alike, to give and receive constructive guidance in a courteous manner.  Ongoing problems should be brought to the attention of the staff.  Let's all make an honest effort to comply with these rules.  We will all have a better time if politics are left at home.
