AFTON MOUNTAIN & ROCKFISH VALLEY TOUR

This tour begins and ends at Oak Ridge.
Total driving time is 105 minutes not accounting for any stops you choose to make.
Featuring Hilltop Berry Farm, Blue Ridge Parkway, McCormick's Pioneer Farm, The famous Cookie Lady of Afton, and Edible Landscaping Nursery.

From Oak Ridge, go North on Hwy 29 for 10 miles to Rt 6 West.  Turn left on Rt 6 and continue for 6 miles.  Turn left and go South on Rt 151 and go 1.3 miles to Rt 612.  Follow the gravel road across the metal bridge and up the hill to the Hilltop Berry Farm.  They have acres of fresh blackberries and blueberries ready for picking.  After you've picked and eaten your fill, continue South on Rt 151 4.2 miles to Rt 664.  Turn right on Rt 664 and make your way 6 miles up the mountain and on to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Turn right on the Parkway and go north for 13 miles to milepost 0 which is the beginning of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  (There are many lookout points along the way, but one of the most popular places to stop is a milepost 6 where you find McCormick's Farm, a replica of an 18th century pioneer homestead.)
At milepost 0, turn left onto Rt 610 and go past the Inn at Afton which is a gathering place for bird watchers who come in September for the annual Hawk migration.  From the Inn at Afton, turn right on Rt 250 and go down the mountain 3 miles to Rt 6 E. Turn right on Rt 6 and go down into the village of Afton, home of the famous Cookie Lady who has been a beloved friend to over 11,000 bicyclists on the Trans-America Trail.  Her cycling friends have left behind enough post cards, pictures and bicycle memorabilia to fill a museum.
Continue going east on Rt 6 to Rt 151.  Turn right to go south on Rt 151.  Stay on 151 for 5 miles.  Turn right on Rt 709.  Go 2.64 miles and turn right on Spirit Ridge Lane to go visit Edible Landscaping Nursery.  After leaving the Edible Landscaping Nursery, turn right on Rt 709 and continue for 1 mile to Rt 151.  Turn right on Rt 151 and continue going south to Rt 6 E. Turn left on Rt 6 and continue for 6 miles to Hwy 29.  Turn right on Hwy 29 and go south for 10 miles to Rt 653.  Turn left on Rt 653 and go back to Oak Ridge.
