Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: Inca Dove (Columbina inca)
Place: Phoenix, AZ, USA
Date: August 1998
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC20E (= 600/5.6), car window
Film: Fuji Sensia 100
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage & VueScan, 80% of frame

Commentary: Although this is an abundant species in urban settings here (especially our back yard), these little doves can be quite spooky and difficult to approach. I discovered this one n a nest along our street, and managed to get the car close enough for this image without causing the dove to fly. This was one of the first shots I took after getting this lens and I was only beginning to feel comfortable handling it in the car.
