Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: American Coot (Fulica americana)
Place: Phoenix, AZ, USA
Date: October 2003
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC20E (600/5.6), tripod
Film: Sensia 100
Exposure: aperture priority matrix meter
Scan: Minolta Dimage & VueScan; 85% of frame

Commentary: Although not the most attractive of birds, and certainly not the most exotic, they are still fun to photograph if only for the exposure challenges. This could have used some fill flash (or more fill - I can't recall if I was using it here) to open up the dark plumage. But I still like it because the interesting feet are prominently displayed.
