Commentary: The San Rafael Valley is a popular birding destination in winter for McGown's and Chestnut-collared Longspurs, Baird's Sparrow, Sprague's Pipit, Ferruginous Hawk, and sometimes Short-eared Owls. I photograph this location every time I'm there, and without digging out the slide can't be sure which visit this was. An alternative composition is also available.
