Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo
jamaicensis)
Place: Picacho, AZ, USA
Date: N/A
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (= 600/5.6),
car window
Film: Fujichrome Sensia 100
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage, minor crop
Commentary: The most wide-spread of the buteo hawks, red-tails can be
seen almost anywhere. They often sit on utility poles as shown here,
watching for easy prey on roadsides or in open fields. The whitewash
on the cross beam shows that this is a popular observation
station.
