Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: Peregrine Falcon (Falco
peregrinus)
Place: Scottsdale, AZ, USA
Date: October 2003
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC20E, PK13, TC14 (=
840/8), monopod from car
Film: Fujichrome Sensia 100
Exposure: aperture priority center-weighted meter, natural light
Scan: Minolta Dimage; 80% of frame
Commentary: I've seen lots of peregrines in the wild - mostly
in coastal NJ. The ones I see here in AZ are generally much darker
and quite a thrill. This is a juvenile bird of the Anatum
form. I'd seen it in the middle of a sod field a week before, and was
quite surprised to have it stay put on this utility wire while I
cobbled together all my optics for this shot.
