Subject: Northern Wheatear (Orenanthe orenanthe)
Place: Rosedale Park, NJ, USA
Date: September 8, 1993
Equipment: Nikon 8008, Nikkor EDIF 400/5.6 & TC14 converter (= 560/8), tripod
Film: Kodachrome 200
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix meter Scan: Minolta Dimage, 70% of frame

Commentary: Wheatears are thrushes from the far north, spending their summers on the flat and barren Arctic tundra almost around the globe. It is a very rare migrant in the lower 48 states, seen mostly in coastal locations in the fall. It is a great prize for any birder to see one. Of the handful that occurred in New Jersey while I lived there, this is the only one I ever saw.
