Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis
cardinalis)
Place: Oak Flat Campground, Superior, AZ
Date: January 2000
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC20E (600/5.6), car
window
Film: Sensia II 100
Exposure: aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 60% of frame
Commentary: This another of my "contrary" photos, where I
mostly ignore the accepted standards of what a bird photo is supposed
to look like. We usually see bright red
males shot in pretty backyard outdoor "studios." What makes this
photo work for me is the head-on view, the way the feet are displayed
on the perch, and the complimentary colors of the bird, the rusty
post, and the background.
