Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca)
Place: Bosque del Apache NWR, New Mexico, USA
Date: November 2001
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC20E (600/5.6), car window
Film: Fujichrome Provia 100 F
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 75% of frame

Commentary: Shooting shorebirds from the car window gives mixed results: it can help in getting close, but it puts the camera too high in relation to the bird. This is especially true at Bosque del Apache where the road sits a bit higher than most of the water. But this is still the best image I've managed of this species to date..
