Commentary: Great Blue Herons are widespread throughout the United States, but vary wary birds almost everywhere but Florida. Even at Brigantine Refuge in coastal NJ where they are plentiful, it is mostly a matter of luck finding one that won't take flight when any person or vehicle approaches.

Before I got a great deal on a used Nikkor 400/5.6, I relied on this very inexpensive Sigma lens that delivered surprisingly good images for the price.
