Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia)
Place: Roadside near Gila Bend, AZ, USA
Date: April 1999
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC20E (600/5.6)
Film: Fujichrome Sensia II 100 exposed normally
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered at f/5.6 or f/8
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 80% of frame

Commentary: This Burrowing Owl photo was taken along a lightly traveled road about 100 miles SW of Phoenix. As with most of my Burrowing Owl shots this was taken from the car while resting the lens on the window edge with the motor off, from about 15 feet away. I like the intense yellow eyes in the large expanse of brown.
