Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: American Golden Plover (Pluvialis dominica)
Place: Sandy Hook, NJ, USA
Date: September 1988
Equipment: Nikon 8008, Nikkor EDIF 400/5.6 & TC14 (560/8 equiv), car window
Film: Kodachrome 64
Exposure: aperture priority center-weighted meter
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 40% of original frame

Commentary: From my days when I was far more of a birder than a bird photographer, this image was a great opportunity to document a locally rare migrant species. I think the image quality holds up well for this heavy crop, and the Kodachrome slide still looks fine after 15 years. This is a juvenile bird, and the length of the primaries clearly separates it from the Pacific Golden Plover of the western US.
