Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: Rufous-backed Robin (Turdus
rufopalliatus)
Place: Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior, AZ, USA
Date: February 26, 2000
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, & TC20E (= 600/5.6),
tripod
Film: Kodak E200, exposed at EI 320 and pushed 2 stops
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage, substantial crop
Commentary: This species is a rare vagrant from Mexico that
has become almost annual in the US, with reports from AZ and CA. In
AZ, it is most often found at this state park about 60 miles east of
Phoenix where it can be found eating fruit in the winter.
The image qaulity is low: E200 was touted as a good film when it
first came out, especially for it's performance when pushed to higher
speeds. But it has a nasty color shift in the green/magenta area and
picks up a lot of increased grain as well. My scans from any of it
are terrible and I wouldn't use it by choice in the future.
