Commentary: Lesser Black-backed Gull used to be a rare species in the US, but populations have continued to increase. This was one of the first birds to become reliable in NJ, and could often be seen near the east dike at Brig. Taken from the window of a 15 passenger van full of birders on a field trip I was leading, this bird was a real treat for most of the participants who hadn't seen one until then.
