Commentary: If you are an active birder, you may have seen
this very bird. It was reported for quite some time as a Gray-crowned
Yellowthroat, a rare warbler from Mexico that had once occurred in
this part of Texas along the Rio Grande. But experts debated
inconsistencies and eventually mist netted the bird for measurements.
I was in the Rio Grande Valley on a birding trip and went to see this
intriguing bird.
This image isn't wasn't made as Eye Candy, but to document
this rarity and allow me to study it in detail. You can read about
this very bird in Warblers by Jon Dunn and Kimball Garrett, a
volume in the Peterson Field Guide series, on pages 538-539.
