Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: Golden-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla)
Place: Bosque del Apache NWR, NM, USA
Date: November 2002
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (= 600/5.6), monopod from car
Film: Fujichrome Sensia 100
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 50% of frame

Commentary: Golden-crowned Sparrow is very rare in New Mexico. This isn't a great image, but it is one that makes me very happy. It is the first slide I scanned from the 10 rolls I shot at Bosque del Apache on my most recent visit. It is a shy species, and this bird was flocking with White-crowned and Song Sparrows along the two-way center road due east of the entrance.
