Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: American Kestrel (Falco
sparverius)
Place: Bosque del Apache NWR, New Mexico, USA
Date: November 2001
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (= 600/5.6),
car window
Film: Fujichrome Provia 100 F exposed normally
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 80% of frame
Commentary: I usually can't get close enough to raptors for a
decent image, but on this visit to Bosque del Apache we had three
different kestrels that were a bit more cooperative than usual. This
one was found along the roadside south of the visitor's center near
the large gull pond. I would prefer that the small branches weren't
blocking part of the bird, but with raptors I always "shoot first and
worry about the details later."
