Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: Williamson's Sapsucker (Melanerpes superciliaris)
Place: Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior, AZ, USA
Date: January 1995
Equipment: Nikon 8008, Nikkor EDIF 400/5.6 & TC14 converter (= 560/8), tripod
Film: Kodachrome 200
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix meter
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 75% of frame

Commentary: An uncommon winter visitor to the lower elevations, it was nice to find this bird about 60 miles east of Phoenix. Rather than crop tightly around the bird I've decided to leave the interesting sapsucker holes visible here.
