Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: Savannah Sparrow (Passerculus
sandwichensis)
Place: Bosque del Apache NWR, NM, USA
Date: December 1999
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (= 600/5.6),
car window
Film: Kodak E200 rated at 320 and pushed 1 stop
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered, natural light, no fill
flash
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 100% of frame
Commentary: This image ranks with my Loggerhead Shrikes as my
favorite shot from Bosque del Apache. Sparrows are an acquired taste
for many people, and photographers at Bosque often overlook them in
the excitement of the abundant large showy birds. This one got up to
catch the sun one very cold winter morning along the Marsh Loop
drive.
