Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus
podiceps)
Place: Ding Darling NWR, FL, USA
Date: January 1989
Equipment: Nikon 8008, Nikkor EDIF 400/5.6 & TC14 converter (=
560/8), tripod
Film: Kodachrome 64
Exposure: aperture priority center-weighted meter
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 80% of frame
Commentary: Pied-billed Grebes are widespread water birds in
the US, and I have taken photos of them in many states. At Ding
Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island it was possible to
work very close to the water level while still staying on dry ground,
and I think that low position is what makes this my favorite shot of
this species.
