Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch |

Subject: Mourning Dove (Zenaida
macroura)
Place: Tucson, AZ, USA
Date: February 2003
Equipment: Nikon N90S, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (= 600/5.6),
tripod
Film: Fuji Sensia 100
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 70% of frame
Commentary: Another common "backyard" bird, taken in a more
natural setting. I had traveled 100 miles to this location, hoping to
get photos of a rare wintering Least Grebe. But this wonderful
setting caught my eye as soon as I got my camera gear out of the car.
I only got a single frame of this bird - it flew as soon as a group
of birders arrived and proceeded to walk past this cactus I was set
up on. Otherwise I'd have tried to move a little more to the left and
a little closer, but I'm still quite happy with this shot.
