Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Subject: Harris's Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus)
Place: Mesa, AZ
Date: December 1995
Equipment: Nikon 8008, Nikkor EDIF 400/5.6, car window
Film: Sensia 100
Exposure: Aperture priority center-weighted meter
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 100% of frame
Commentary: This bird seemed very tame as I drove my territory on a Christmas Bird Count along a canal on the Indian Reservation. I actually drove past the bird, got out of the car to get my camera out of the trunk, turned around and drove back to it. I could have used a shorter lens, but all I had was the 400 as this wasn't a photo trip but a bird count. I couldn't move back further without plunging over the edge and into the canal. Taken with the lens resting on the open car window edge.
